Go Low Flow

Low flow fixtures reduce the amount of water without affecting performance.
Add aerators to faucets, install lowflow showerheads, and consider low-flow or dual-flush toilets.

MN GreenStar Standards

Minnesota GreenStar rating system standards are organized around familiar homebuilding and remodeling components (e.g. building enclosure, mechanical systems, electrical, plumbing, and finishes). Each of these categories has a set of prerequisites as well as elective strategies called credits. Checklists for the new homes and remodeling programs are available here.

Achieving certification requires a well-rounded approach to Green design and construction. Builders and remodelors are required to achieve minimum thresholds in five areas: energy efficiency, resource efficiency, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, and site and community.

The New Homes rating system is integrated with ENERGY STAR homes and the Energy Efficient Home federal tax credit. Upon Minnesota GreenStar certification, the homebuilder will be eligible for ENERGY STAR certification as well as the $2,000 tax credit.

The Remodeling rating system has several overall prerequisites including preconstruction tests for radon and combustion appliance venting. Mercury thermostats, if present, must be replaced.
