FAQ

What is Minnesota GreenStar?

We are a non-profit organization that educates homeowners, builders and remodelers, and certifies green building and remodeling residential projects. Our education series, Checklist and Manual make it easy for you, your builder or remodeler to build green!

How do I get started?

Homeowners, builders and remodelers interested in certifying a new home or a remodeling project as a MN GreenStar project must attend an 8-hour orientation training. Following that training, a participant fills out an application for a project and begins the certification process. Sign up for training at www.batc.org

How is MN GreenStar different than other green building programs?

MN GreenStar is unique; it is a Minnesota-specific green building program. Special attention to the nuances of the Minnesota Building Code and our unique climate were accounted for in the program’s development.

How much does MN GreenStar Cost?

The cost for project certification can vary based on project type, size and complexity. Costs are potentially offset by reduced operation and maintenance expenses, rebates, credits, and discounts. Plus your home could increase in value and you could reap the benefits at resale!

Who will inspect my projects?

MN GreenStar currently has four firms approved to do third party inspections. Additionally, all technical questions will be fielded by MN GreenStar technical committee and staff.

How can I be a sponsor and be recognized as a leader in sustainable building practices?

Sponsorships are available! Contact the MN GreenStar office to discuss options.
